Another Bob Marley Biter

Chase:
Why is it that everywhere I turn, in whatever part of the world someone is trying to make money off of Bob Marley? Take in point the latest biter, C-list actor and Spike Lee muse Roger Guenvuer Smith who is brining his one-man show "Who Killed Bob Marley" to the Calabash Literary Festival in Treasure Beach, Jamaica later this month. I seriously have a problem with a guy who is born in Berkley, California who claims to have met Bob once, to then turn around and use the legend's name in an effort to catapult to fame.
This is how Roger described his show to the Jamaica Observer, "For me, it's a cultural question, it's very personal. It has everything to do with how I identify myself with Jamaica, with music, as represented by Bob and the overall culture."Yeah whatever dude! I would love to know how much you know about Jamaican culture when you are in the throes of a shoot-out in Matches Lane. It will be interesting to see how you survive then, after all Matches Lane is no Jakes!

Rasta Beauty Queen

C,
It sounds like an oxymoron, but yes, Rastas can be beauty queens too. Last month, for the first time ever Jamaica crowned it's first Rastafarian beauty queen. Now I know that you think the whole beauty queen thing is outdated (which it is) but I'll have you know that in the Caribbean winning a beauty pageant is considered to be very prestigious.

Well Zahra Redwood heads off to Mexico City in a few days for the annual pageant, and so before she left the island she unveiled her wardrobe to the press.
Ms. Redwood will be truly representing Rasta as her national costume is a long red, green and gold cape with a lion emblazoned on the back.
We will have to watch the pageant on May 28th on NBC.

The Black George Bush

In a last ditch effort to try and secure additional voters for the upcoming elections, the Prime Minister of Jamaica Portia Simpson-Miller announced in her budget speech yesterday afternoon that as of May 28, 2007 the Jamaican government will provide free health care to children under 18 years old.

Again just another idiotic move by the PNP (Poor & Never Prosper) to fool poor black people into thinking they are actually getting a deal.

Madame PM- the people that need free health care are the elderly, not children under 18.

Gay in Jamaica and the Press

Chase:

I think it is so disturbing that the Jamaican press continues to report on gay issues on the island in an irresponsible way. Yes, there are a lot of homophobes in Jamaica, but even then isn't the press supposed to be unbiased? Tell me what you think of this article which made the front page of the Jamaica Observer over the weekend. Personally, the lack of tolerance and abundance of ignorance in Jamaica embarrasses me.

P.S. Can you believe that picture? Where is the Human Rights Council?
